Leak testing systems are necessary in a multitude of industrial production lines that develop goods that contain a fluid for a prolonged period of time. For example, water pumps and solenoid valves of cars must be sealed, otherwise the engine of the car might become overheated, resulting in malfunctions and large economic losses to the company. Pressure leak testing systems are used in other medical applications when testing for packaging of sterile surgical tools. Overall, leak testing systems need to be customizable for a company’s product, which make them very expensive.

The goal of Bacterioscan, a company started by Mr. Edouard Trincal, is to revolutionize the testing of urine samples and detection of UTIs. The BacterioScan 216Dx collects the urine sample in a cartridge and utilizes optical measurements to identify the presence of a bacterial infection within 3 hours. This results in greater efficiency in identifying samples with urinary tract infections, allowing for faster identification of organisms and testing for antibiotic susceptibility. While using the 216Dx, the integrity of the cuvettes and the cartridges that hold the urine sample is very important; therefore, a customized leak tester is used to check the cuvettes for potential leaks before it is sold to the clinic. Contaminations can lead to inaccurate results, which is why leak testing the containers is a critical factor in the development of this product.
